The Fabric API 1.20.4-1.20.2 mod is a set of different features, such as hooks and libraries that will be required for the correct operation of mods on Fabric engine.
This API also contains visual design for some additional tools that will be needed for correct display of the list of mods, information about changes in mods and feedback from developers of add-ons. Basically, Fabric has a more simplified core than in Forge, but this is enough to make changes to vanilla Minecraft and add some new features.
Features
Compatibility with Fabric Mod Loader:
- Fabric API works in conjunction with the Fabric Mod Loader to enable the creation and execution of mods within the Minecraft game.
Modding Framework:
- It serves as a framework for mod developers, offering a collection of classes and functions that facilitate the creation of mods. This includes APIs for adding new blocks, items, entities, and other in-game features.
Utility Functions:
- Fabric API provides utility functions that simplify common tasks for mod developers. This can include methods for handling GUI (Graphical User Interface) elements, networking, rendering, and other aspects of mod development.
Enhanced Modding Experience:
- By using Fabric API, mod developers can streamline the modding process and take advantage of pre-built functions, reducing the amount of code they need to write from scratch. This can lead to a more efficient and standardized modding experience.
Compatibility and Updates:
- Fabric API is designed to be kept up-to-date with the latest Minecraft releases, ensuring compatibility with newer versions of the game. This allows mod developers to adapt their creations to the latest features and improvements in Minecraft.
Community Collaboration:
- Fabric API is part of the broader Fabric modding community. Mod developers often collaborate and share resources through this platform, contributing to the overall growth and improvement of the Minecraft modding ecosystem.
Open Source:
- Fabric API is open-source, meaning that its source code is publicly available. This allows mod developers to inspect the code, contribute to its development, and customize it to suit their specific needs.
Disadvantages
Learning Curve:
- For novice mod developers, there might be a learning curve when first working with Fabric API. While the framework is designed to be efficient, understanding its structure and functions may take some time.
Limited Compatibility with Forge Mods:
- Fabric and Forge are two separate modding platforms for Minecraft, and mods developed for one platform may not be compatible with the other. If players want to use mods from both platforms, additional tools or compatibility layers may be required.
Dependency for Fabric Mods:
- From a player’s perspective, the need to install Fabric API as a dependency for many Fabric mods can be seen as a disadvantage. This adds an extra step to the mod installation process.
Mod Quantity (Subjective):
- The number of mods available for Fabric might be perceived as fewer compared to Forge, which has a larger modding community. However, the quality of mods is more important than sheer quantity.
